Derek Brady Barton 1986 - 1999
|
Brady was born on February 24, 1986 at Willis-Knighton Hospital in Shreveport, LA. The second of
three children to Robert & Janet Barton.
When Brady was born his lungs were not fully developed and he had to stay in ICU for about 4 days. He
then came down with jaundice and had to stay another couple of days. Brady was no different than most
babies as he stayed up at night and slept in the daytime. As Brady got older, he was always recognized
by his hair style and always kept it fixed the same way, combed straight down.
As Brady grew older he always liked doing things, never one to just sit and do nothing. He was always
busy.
Brady was also very active in church activities. He was a member of the youth group and won state two
years in a row in Bible drill with a perfect score.
Brady was also an outstanding baseball player. He was an all-star every year that he played. He was
very competitive and never liked to lose.
Then on December 10, 1997, Brady's dreams were put on hold as he was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma,
a rare form of bone cancer. This date had become the best and worst days of my life. On this same
date my wife and I were married twenty years earlier.
In March of 1998, Brady had his right leg amputated above the knee due to the cancer in his leg. This
could not stop him from doing the things he loved, like fishing or hanging out with friends.
In the summer of 1999, the cancer had begun to spread to other areas of his body. While no good news
would ever seem to come, he kept his faith that he would be healed. On November 6, 1999, Brady was
healed, but not here on earth. I believe God felt this was his time to come home to him.
I believe heaven is a better place because Brady is there and I know that one day I will see him again.
With much love,
Robert Barton
